Trackball mice are popular choices for those seeking a comfortable, ergonomic alternative to traditional mice and two of the best on the market are the Logitech Ergo M575 and the Logitech MX Ergo. Although they may look similar at first glance, they each offer unique features that cater to different user preferences.

Let’s explore how these two Logitech mice compare in design, functionality and price.

Key Differences and Similarities

The main difference between the Logitech Ergo M575 and MX Ergo lies in customization. Both models feature customizable buttons that can be adjusted using Logitech’s Options Plus app. However, the Logitech MX Ergo has more options, including horizontal scrolling and a unique button beside the trackball to adjust pointer speed.

The M575, on the other hand, offers straightforward usability with two buttons by the clicks and scroll wheel. It supports vertical scrolling, making it a simpler choice for those who prefer basic functionality.

Ergonomics and Comfort

In terms of ergonomics, the MX Ergo takes the lead by offering two angles for use. It can sit flat like the M575 or tilt to a more comfortable angle to reduce hand strain. This flexibility helps prevent fatigue, especially during extended use. The M575, while ergonomic, lacks the tilting option, so it remains flat.

Both mice are precise and customizable for sensitivity in the Logitech Options Plus app but the MX Ergo provides an extra option to switch between two sensitivity levels, adding convenience for users who need different speeds for various tasks.

Connectivity and Battery Life

Both mice come with a Logitech Unifying Receiver and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing pairing with multiple devices. The MX Ergo includes a device pairing button on top, making it easy to switch between USB and Bluetooth connections. The M575’s pairing button, however, is located at the bottom, near the power switch.

Regarding battery life, the Logitech Ergo M575 is powered by a single AA battery, offering up to two years of usage. The MX Ergo has a rechargeable battery that lasts about 120 days on a single charge but uses a micro USB port rather than the more modern USB-C.

Clicking, Scrolling and Stability

In terms of scrolling and clicking, the MX Ergo’s scroll wheel provides a smoother experience and the horizontal scroll option adds flexibility. The clicking sound and feel are quite similar on both devices and both feature rubberized pads on the bottom to keep them stable on your desk.

These mice are designed to reduce wrist strain, as they remain stationary on the desk. Instead of moving the mouse, users control the pointer by moving the trackball with their thumb, making them great for minimizing hand and wrist movement.

Design and Appearance

Both mice are close in size, though the MX Ergo is slightly larger and has a gray compared to the M575’s blue trackball. The MX Ergo’s tilt capability, thanks to its magnetic plate, also makes it look more professional and adaptable to different setups.

Price and Value

The Ergo M575 is more affordable, priced around $50, while the MX Ergo costs approximately $100. Despite the higher cost, the MX Ergo’s additional features, such as adjustable angles, side scrolling and customizable pointer speed, make it worth considering if you’re looking for a versatile trackball mouse.

Both the Logitech Ergo M575 and MX Ergo are excellent mice, each suited to different needs. The M575 is ideal for users seeking a budget-friendly, straightforward trackball with long battery life. However, if you value customization, a tiltable design and side-scrolling capability, the MX Ergo is worth the extra investment.
