iOS 18 comes with several small new features that Apple did not announce at its launch. One of these features mirrors one of Instagram’s best functionalities. With the new version of the operating system for the iPhone, users can now record video from the camera app while playing any multimedia content on the device.
Previously, when a user began recording from the camera app, the phone’s audio would automatically pause. This was different from apps like Instagram, which allowed users to create more creative videos without interrupting audio. In iOS 18, users can continue audio playback while recording, provided a specific feature is enabled in the system settings. To activate this feature, follow these steps:
- Open your iPhone’s Settings.
- Navigate to the Camera section.
- Locate the Sound Recording option.
- Ensure that the Allow Audio Playback feature is turned on.
Now, simply open the camera app and start recording while, for example, a song is playing on your iPhone. You will notice that the music continues to play. However, please note that the sound recording will be in mono audio. This feature works with various video quality settings, including 4K at 60 frames per second.
iOS 18 Includes Other New Features in The Camera
This is not the only small new feature Apple has added to the camera with the iOS 18 update. Users can now pause video recording directly from the app. A new button allows you to temporarily stop recording and quickly resume it, enabling the creation of different shots. However, this feature is only available in video mode, not in other modes like slow motion.
iOS 18 also includes other interesting new features, such as a redesigned—albeit somewhat problematic—Photos app, the ability to customize the Home screen, an improved Control Center, and more. Additionally, Apple Intelligence will be available soon, offering features like the ability to remove unwanted elements from an image and a more advanced Siri, among other improvements.
