When it comes to choosing a stylus for your iPad, two popular options are the Logitech Crayon and the Apple Pencil 2. Both have unique features that make them great, but depending on your needs, one may suit you better than the other.

In this guide, we’ll compare both of them in terms of design, performance and price, helping you figure out which one might be the best fit for you.

Design and Build Quality

The Logitech Crayon comes in two colors orange and space gray. It has a flat design that prevents it from rolling off surfaces, making it a practical option. It also charges via a lightning port located at the top, which is protected by a rubber cap.

The Apple Pencil 2, on the other hand, offers a sleeker, more refined design. It attaches magnetically to the iPad for both charging and pairing, which is incredibly convenient. It also features a flat side, which helps reduce rolling. Unlike the Logitech Crayon, the Apple Pencil 2 has a replaceable tip, which is handy if you use it frequently.

Connectivity

One interesting feature of the Logitech Crayon is that it connects to the iPad without the need for Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This makes it easy to use across multiple iPads without re-pairing, a feature that the Apple Pencil 2 does not offer. With the Apple Pencil 2, you need to attach it to the side of the iPad to pair it. While the pairing process is fast, it’s not as seamless as with the Logitech Crayon.

Pressure Sensitivity

The main difference between these two devices is pressure sensitivity. The Apple Pencil 2 has full pressure sensitivity, allowing you to draw thicker or thinner lines depending on how hard you press. This feature is especially useful for artists and illustrators. The Logitech Crayon, however, lacks this feature. You can still adjust the thickness of lines in certain apps by changing the speed or angle of the stylus, but it’s not as precise as the Apple Pencil 2.

If you’re just using the stylus for note-taking or casual drawing, this may not be an issue. Apps like GoodNotes 5 work well with both the Logitech Crayon and Apple Pencil 2, delivering similar results for basic note-taking tasks.

Performance and Latency

Both the Logitech Crayon and the Apple Pencil 2 offer low latency, meaning the delay between your hand movement and what appears on the screen is minimal. When using them on different iPads, like the iPad Mini 6 or iPad Pro M1, you won’t notice much difference in performance.

For the Apple Pencil 2, you might experience slightly faster response times on an iPad Pro due to its ProMotion display, which refreshes at a higher rate. However, this difference is so small that most users won’t even notice it.

Price

Price is another significant factor. The Logitech Crayon typically retails for around $70, making it a more affordable option. Meanwhile, the Apple Pencil 2 costs about $129. During sales events like Black Friday, you can sometimes find the Apple Pencil 2 for as low as $100, but it’s still generally more expensive than the Logitech Crayon.

Which One Should You Buy?

If you’re a student or casual user looking for a reliable stylus for note-taking, the Logitech Crayon is a fantastic budget-friendly option. It offers great performance at a lower price and unless you need pressure sensitivity, it gets the job done.

However, if you’re an artist or someone who needs pressure sensitivity and the convenience of magnetic charging, the Apple Pencil 2 is worth the extra investment. It has more advanced features, which make it a better choice for creative professionals.

Both the Logitech Crayon and Apple Pencil 2 are excellent choices, but they cater to different needs. The Logitech Crayon is perfect for budget-conscious users who just need a reliable tool for everyday tasks, while the Apple Pencil 2 is ideal for those who want the full range of drawing and writing features. Consider what you’ll use it for and choose the one that best suits your needs.
